The kidneys are
two organs, each of which is shaped like beans and size of a fist. The kidneys
filter excess water and waste from the blood and produce urine. When you have
kidney disease, the kidneys are damaged and cannot filter the blood as they
should.
You are at higher risk for kidney disease if you have diabetes or blood pressure. If the kidneys stop working completely, treatments include a kidney transplant or dialysis. Other kidney problems include acute kidney injury, cysts, stones and infections.
